The Detox Disconnect

Toxin Awareness. Detoxification. Safer, More Informed Support.

For the first time, this training is now open to health coaches, fitness professionals, and the broader wellness community.

This is not a generic cleanse course. It is an in-depth training designed to help participants understand toxic exposure, the body’s detoxification processes, and the difference between practical wellness support and clinical intervention.

We’ve only just begun — It’s not too late to enroll

One Training. Two Distinct Educational Tracks.

Both tracks begin with a substantial shared Toxin Awareness foundation. From there, the training separates into two carefully designed educational paths. The distinction is not about one audience receiving a lesser version of the course. It is about providing the right education, depth, and boundaries for two different roles.

Nonclinical education

Health Coach & Wellness Track

For health coaches, fitness professionals, wellness educators, and individuals with a strong personal interest in evidence-informed wellness education.

Learn practical exposure reduction, foundational wellness support, detoxification complexity, safety, questionable-trend awareness, and appropriate referral.

Explore this track

Clinical education

Credentialed Healthcare Practitioner Track

For qualified healthcare professionals whose legal and professional scope includes medical nutrition therapy, clinical assessment, and individualized nutrition intervention.

Learn detoxification physiology, clinical assessment concepts, functional testing considerations, individualized intervention, and clinical application.

Detoxification Is a Physiological Process—Not a Cleanse.

Toxic exposure can occur through food, water, home and personal-care products, work environments, hobbies, medications, and many aspects of modern life. But exposure is only one part of the picture.

Detoxification is an ongoing physiological process involving the liver, gastrointestinal tract, kidneys, lungs, skin, and other systems. It requires coordinated processing, antioxidant protection, nutritional adequacy, and safe elimination.

You will learn

  • Common sources and routes of everyday exposure
  • Practical exposure reduction without becoming overwhelmed
  • Why detoxification involves more than “flushing toxins out”
  • Why aggressive detoxification can create problems

You will also learn

  • The importance of food, lifestyle, antioxidant protection, and normal elimination
  • How to recognize questionable detox marketing and unsafe practices
  • When wellness support is appropriate—and when referral is essential

Shared Toxin Awareness Foundation

Both tracks begin together with the Toxin Awareness portion of the course. This shared learning experience is intentionally substantial. Participants explore common toxin categories, cumulative exposure, practical prevention, the role of normal detoxification and elimination systems, and why detoxification should never be reduced to a one-size-fits-all approach.

Shared learning themes

  • Heavy metals, pesticides, solvents, plastics, water contaminants, and other common exposure categories
  • Food, household, personal-care, occupational, and environmental exposure considerations
  • Why low-dose, cumulative exposure awareness matters
  • The body’s major detoxification and elimination systems

Shared learning themes

  • The relationship among exposure, oxidative balance, nutrition, and elimination
  • Food-first and lifestyle foundations that support overall health
  • Why “more detox” is not always better
  • How to identify detox claims and products that deserve caution
Important: Symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, gastrointestinal concerns, hormonal concerns, or chemical sensitivity can have many possible causes. The Wellness Track does not teach participants to determine that toxic burden is the cause of a person’s symptoms.
Health Coach & Wellness Track

Practical Wellness Education With Clear Ethical Boundaries

The Health Coach & Wellness Track is a nonclinical, education-focused training for people who want a deeper, more responsible understanding of toxin exposure and foundational detoxification support. It helps participants make prevention practical, understand why detoxification is complex, recognize higher-risk approaches, and know when referral is needed.

Who this track is for

Health coaches, personal trainers and other fitness professionals, wellness educators, other nonclinical practitioners, and individuals learning primarily for their own education. You do not need to be a healthcare professional to participate.

Participants learning for personal reasons receive general education. They are not receiving individualized healthcare advice, diagnosis, treatment, or a plan for managing their own medical conditions.

What you will learn

  • Toxin Awareness and Practical Exposure Reduction: Identify realistic, everyday opportunities to reduce unnecessary exposure.
  • How Detoxification Works—and Why “Boosting Detox” Can Go Wrong: Understand the purpose of Phases I, II, and III without being trained to assess those phases in an individual.
  • Antioxidant Protection and the Body’s Interconnected Detoxification Network: Understand the general roles of antioxidant protection, glutathione, nutritional adequacy, and dietary variety.
  • Elimination and Gut Health: Understand why mobilization is not the same as elimination and why bowel, liver, kidney, gallbladder, or significant gastrointestinal concerns require referral.
  • Testing Awareness, Limitations, and Referral: Understand what testing can and cannot tell us—without being trained to select, interpret, or treat from testing.
  • Safer Detoxification Support: Learn food and lifestyle foundations, product literacy, questionable-practice awareness, and referral.

What this track does not prepare you to do

  • Diagnose or treat medical conditions, toxic burden, or impaired detoxification
  • Order, select, interpret, or profit from specialty testing
  • Interpret MTHFR, CBS, glutathione, sulfur, methylation, or other pathway claims
  • Recommend binders, chelation, therapeutic bile-flow products, targeted detox supplements, or clinical detoxification protocols
  • Manage mold toxicity, heavy-metal toxicity, or medically complex toxicant-related cases
  • Assure someone that worsening symptoms, “die-off,” or a supplement or sauna reaction proves detoxification is working

This is not a detox-supplement protocol course.

Certificate of Completion

Participants receive a certificate of completion. This is not a certification, a new professional credential, authorization to provide medical nutrition therapy, an expansion of legal or professional scope, or a substitute for individualized medical care.

What credentialed participants say

Christine M.

The extensive toxin awareness information will help to more thoroughly identify a patient’s toxic burden. I think Detox Physiology was my favorite part though! The depth and breadth of the content fostered my appreciation of the profound impact the right balance of nutrients can have on cellular function and health. So glad you added Genomics; I think it goes hand in hand and is vital to understanding detoxification. There is so much in a dietitian/nutritionist’s wheelhouse on a very deep level!

Overall, detoxification will be a foundational aspect of my practice. I believe understanding and applying this information will aid patients healing and help transform their lives. The course has bolstered my confidence and I believe will foster more rewarding and profitable work.

Thank you for putting your heart and soul into all you do-it shows!

Rubi A.

The toxic awareness training was very extensive and helped me understand the in-depth concepts of detoxification.

Physiology of detox is the most important aspect of detoxification that I believe needs deeper understanding to connect all the dots together. The genomic connection is equally valuable in making an appropriate plan for the patient.

Since learning what I have in this course, I have implemented a few things in my personal life as well as with my patients. The most specific takeaway for me was the better understanding of detoxifying foods, supplements and natural therapies discussed during the training.

I feel more confident in helping myself and my patients to incorporate the detailed concepts in this detoxification module. I will continue to review the material as needed to help my patients better in their specific health issues.

Course participant

I thought the detox section was fascinating, especially what was covered on the dangers from cell phone/electronics, water safety and appropriate cookware. I am now more aware of the potential of toxins and how I can reduce them.

I’ve learned that toxicity and the ability to detox efficiently is a cornerstone for assessment and potential treatment of many diseases we encounter.

More than ever, I recognize the Importance of an individual approach to detoxification and that I can assess and tailor intervention for each client. You’ve given me so much to expand my clinical toolbox.

I found this training very informative and greatly appreciated the time you spent on this very important topic.

Course participant

I found learning the (detox) pathways most valuable so we, as practitioners, could see how insufficiencies related to diet, lifestyle or Genomic SNPs could impede this perfect process. I REALLY came away with an appreciation for antioxidants!!

The class really took a deep dive into detox physiology. I believe that having genomic training helped bring the connection home for me.

My biggest take away is learning to evaluate/assess – to be sure you are actually helping the body to release/eliminate toxins safely and remember to always DO NO HARM! Test, test, test!!

Overall: This will be my “ace” in the hole so to speak. By taking this in-depth training, I know I have the skills to probe deeper into a client’s profile, so I may help them unearth the clues to their health dilemmas so we can properly tease them out through specific testing and then set them up with an equally specific detoxification protocol, including building them back up nutritionally and full-on gut support!

Course participant

I consider everything in this course crucial to know! The physiology section was above and beyond. Understanding this now as I do will truly help me choose the most targeted interventions for my clients. This goes deep and you feel overwhelmed at times but know it will all come together and make so much sense by the end. Keep it going Susan!

Jill K.

This detox training is a very comprehensive deep dive that will help you not only understand how to identify the need to detox but why problems are occurring and how to help the patient detox properly. Understanding the physiology of detox is crucial to helping patients. Knowing where there could be problems and what to do to intervene is the key. The intervention section is great because this is where it all comes together, and we get to understand how to help patients detox depending on what is going on.
